Can't get Xlights to start

So noob here. I attempting to install xlights to start playing around and I have encountered a problem. Xlights won't even start up. I install it  and upon opening it, it asks to select a show directory. I select one, and then it freezes. I've have the Vamp plugins. I tried several versions. They all freeze after selecting a directory. There's no crash log to my knowlege, as I don't think it even gets that far. 

I'm running MAC OS X El Capitan (Ver. 10.11.1). It's a 2010 model MacBook Pro so I can't update my OS as the new OS updates are incompatible with my hardware apparently.

Is there any other solution other than my MacBook Pro is too old for modern times. Because this is my only theory as of now.

You'll need Dan Kulp's help for this one. He's the one who recompiles the xlights code for Mac.

I would wipe out any xLights files in ~/Library/Preferences, restart, and point the show directory to an entirely empty directory and see if it starts.

FIXED IT!!!!!

I went and bought a new MacBook. Lol Works like charm when your hardware isn't 10 years old.
