Taking the "mask" off of P10 or P5 panels. Does it still look OK?

On every P10 or P5 panel, there is a mask screwed onto the front. I'm sure it is there for protection of the tiny little surface mount LEDs, but I'm having a problem.

Around Halloween, my P5 panel got WAY HOT in the evening Texas sun. +80F day. Some (many) of those masks have warped now and cause distortion when viewing "off angle."  No problem if straight on or just a few degrees off.

My question is not about keeping the panels cool. That ship has sailed.  :-\

What I'd like to know is if anyone has removed the masks (lots of tiny tiny little screws) and how it looked afterwards?

I've removed mine to paint them for a sign I made. Once you remove all those tiny screws then the PCB also lifts off from the frame.  It is not a big deal. You should just proceed with a little caution so you don't damage any LEDs. That said, they are pretty sturdy.

Hadn't considered that the PCB comes free, also. I was more concerned about how the panel would look out at the street.
The little bulge areas I have are annoying but not a show stopper. It may go "back burner" for now.
