Well Frankr has been busy again! BETA_24 is now an official Ver 24 release. We will open BETA 25 for the next pile of work.

Official version 3.0.24 Summary: fade in, fade out, circle effect, anti aliasing fixed on text, can protect cells in sequence to not overwrite when you press the "Create Random Effects" button,
cross fade slider next to the Layers. Now you can slide Effect 1 into Effect2. Very helpful if you are cross fading movies.

RELEASE NOTES:
3.0.24: Aug 4,2013 - Enhancement: (frankr) New fade in and fade out boxes on every effect. Enter the number of seconds to either fade in/out.
                              - Enhancement: (sean) Started development of Piano Keyboard. This is not complete. Will eventually use an input file from
Audacity that will identify the polyphonic notes in a song.
               - Enhancement: (matt) Many changes to text. Ghosting is now fixed. You no longer have to use the temporary fix of using
"1 is unmask, 2 is color wash". Text now has 45 degrees rotation. Countdown timer can show seconds counting down or
it can show "xx d yy h zz m aa s" display. countdown text is now centered correctly.
               - Enhancement: (frankr) New effect for circles. Circles can bounce, collide. Choose radial to make a new effect
               - Bug: (sean) fixed crash when creating random effects. The new effect classes (piano, circles) were causing problem. fixed
               - Bug: (sean) When randomly creating Spirograph effects, the animate button was not being selected. fixed.
               - Enhancement: (frankr) Cells in your effect grid can now be protected/un-protected. Protect a cell and
press the "create random effects" and all cells will get a new effect unless the cell is protected.
Under Development: Piano Effect. This is NOT done yet. when completed it will animate a piano
                     keyboard.
               - Enhancement: (frankr) Slider next to Layer choice. This slider allows you to pick how much of effect 1 and effect 2 show
                     through.

               - UNDER DEVELOPMENT: (sean) Piano Keyboard. Not functional yet. Will be pulled forward into release 25

Sean, I installed the non-Beta v24 and I'm getting occasional "xLights.exe has stopped working" and wxWidgets Debug Alerts

It occurred while saving a Random Effect on Row 10 (the last row). Here is the XML for Row 10

Spirograph,Spirograph,Effect 2,ID_SLIDER_SparkleFrequency=200,ID_SLIDER_Brightness=100,ID_SLIDER_Contrast=0,ID_SLIDER_Speed1=19,ID_SLIDER_Speed2=12,ID_SLIDER_Spirograph1_R=3,ID_SLIDER_Spirograph1_r=0,ID_SLIDER_Spirograph1_d=26,ID_CHECKBOX_Spirograph1_Animate=1,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette1_1=1,ID_BUTTON_Palette1_1=#FF0000,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette1_2=0,ID_BUTTON_Palette1_2=#00FF00,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette1_3=0,ID_BUTTON_Palette1_3=#0000FF,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette1_4=0,ID_BUTTON_Palette1_4=#FFFF00,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette1_5=0,ID_BUTTON_Palette1_5=#FFFFFF,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette1_6=0,ID_BUTTON_Palette1_6=#000000,ID_SLIDER_Spirograph2_R=73,ID_SLIDER_Spirograph2_r=0,ID_SLIDER_Spirograph2_d=60,ID_CHECKBOX_Spirograph2_Animate=1,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette2_1=1,ID_BUTTON_Palette2_1=#FF0000,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette2_2=0,ID_BUTTON_Palette2_2=#00FF00,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette2_3=1,ID_BUTTON_Palette2_3=#0000FF,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette2_4=1,ID_BUTTON_Palette2_4=#FFFF00,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette2_5=0,ID_BUTTON_Palette2_5=#FFFFFF,ID_CHECKBOX_Palette2_6=1,ID_BUTTON_Palette2_6=#000000

and the wxWidgets error message is in the JPG

Hi John,

Can you send me the xml file for that? I'll take a look and see what is going on with it.

Frank

It didnt do again on the same file.

I'll try it on another older file and let you know.

Save off a copy of the older version before starting on it just in case the same scenario repeats itself.

easiest way is to just copy all xml files into a notehr location. i was thinking of making a BACKUP button in xlights. when you push it, there will be a subdirectory created unde your show directory maybe something like 2013-08-04, 2013-08-11 .etc. then button just copies entire set of xml to that location.

now when we do a release, start by pressing BACKUP, you now have a copy. You might also want backups when you plan on doing large edits. The xml files are so small you could do this everyday for tears and not use too much space.

i will be gone the rest of the day ona a family outing, ill look into a backup button (Or like happens alot, frankr will already have done it).

thanks

I think I see why I'm getting the  wxWidgets Debug Alerts message box.

It happens consistently when I open an older XML file where the Model was defined to be in the first 16,384 channels.

Now, that model starts at 16,385 and goes to 28,160  (its a 72x54 matrix).

The good news is that the wxWidget error asks me if I want to quit, cancel or ignore. If I choose ignore, it completes the Save and never shows me the error again.  If I say "No" it continues but shows the error over and over until I give up and click Ignore.

It is preceded by a "Message" box that says "Increasing sequence channel count from 16384 to 28048"

The wxWidgets error is no longer appearing. Good.

But, updating an xseq file that has older model data and channel ranges is a problem (xLights has stopped working / Close)

Brand new sequences that have the current models and their channel layout work fine - no errors
but if I edit an xseq file that may have older channel or model data, I have problems. My new setup maps from 1 to 32768. My old setup only went to 16384. It is when I edit one of the old ones that I have all my problems.

Easy Workaround is to Delete the old xseq file. Then start a new sequence with the XML file. The XML file must get saved first because it has my correct changes before the crash.

It will ask for the music, then prompt for a name, but otherwise it fixes the sequence.

Because the workaround is so effective, a routine that would erase and recreate the xseq would work.
Then again, if the xseq file had data in some "non-xlights" channels like I would have in a converted LOR file, it would lose all that data and I woudn't know it.

Also, minor comment - when protecting a cell by right clicking, it protects the cell that is currently highlighted in yellow.

If you are accustomed to right clicking on a cell without first left clicking it, you may protect the wrong cell. The blue text is a good second check, though. (I haven't watched the video for V24, so if that was mentioned there, I'm being repetitious)

yep, you need to get it ot be yellow (left click), then you can right click. i do mention it on teh video.

Also you can drag a block of cells and right click them all

Ah I should be able to fix that.  I would agree that the expected behavior should be to protect the cell you click and not the cell that is highlighted.  Or at least move the highlight to coincide with the click and protect the cell you clicked. Either way the user want to protect the cell they just clicked on...

I'll fix that this evening.

Sean, the version you posted at 22:09 last night (8/4/13) does not seem to be crashing on my old file updates.

Did you sneak in an update?  Again?
