Cool!
I got mine last week and played with it some.
I went to raspberrypi.org and downloaded the NOOBS installing program and loaded Raspbian.
You can load it with a GUI.  I used the web browser some.

I realize we won't be using this setup, but I just wanted to play with it some.

I did the same. My wife was not impressed when I commandeered the big screen, but I was VERY impressed with the video quality from the HDMI output. When I tried to connect keyboard, mouse and wireless, it quickly ran out of power and USB ports. You might want to look at a powered USB hub.

I also got the recommend Pi Wireless device. My other USB wireless was not recognized, but the new one was installed on boot up and just needed me to pick the access point with password.  Should be useful for maintaining the time.

yep, i mentioned this is in a post about the powered hub

i have
1) raspberry pi
2) 7 port powered hub, 2A 5v supply
3) wireless dongle
4) case
5) ribbon cable

BTW, i hooked up the pi to my big tv. my boys spent all day yesterday writing programs in scratch and getting animations.
just plugged in keyboard and mouse for them so they could launch startx and then start coding. (future nutcracker coders)

Start looking for a flash drive or usb external drive.  A usb storage device will be required.

Good to know. I'm assuming that a 8Gb flash drive should hold more then enough sequences to run a show for the night?

Waiting patiently,

Already have several!

Ya, any size will do.  I have a 16g in mine.  Once video becomes avail for those who want it, a usb hd will prob be needed

I had an 512g SSD usb drive that should work well.
