I too tended to set mine to all external based lots of forum comments in the past.

That is the problem with Forums. People are trying to help each other and providing advice based on what works for them (or they think it is what made it work) Sometimes, these solutions/recommendations are incorrect (like the post from rayster that created these responses). But for the most part, the forums provide great advice, sometimes the incorrect information needs to be pointed out.

I am just trying to learn more.  When I saw the post that stated it should be opposite to how I have mine set up I just wanted to know why.

If there was always a best or better option, then it would be stupid to even have the option available, LOL.
In our hobby, most of the adapters that people purchase work best with the External Drivers, but there is no way to ensure that people are going to purchase the recommended devices.
