I get the following message:

WARN: Sequence has one or more video effects where render caching is turned off. This will render slowly.

I have render caching turned on (not that it seems to help much) but can't find anything "video effect" related where render caching is turned off.

Anyone seen this?

ooops - should have checked - somehow, Render Cache was turned off. That got rid of the error.

btw, if you use Render Cache, do you do it for "Locked Effects Only"  ???? or just "Enabled"

That would depend on your preference. Render Cache uses hard drive space but greatly reduces render times. If you select "Locked Effects Only" and don't go into the sequencer and lock the effects, then you gain no benefit. So it is just like almost everything in this hobby...The best way is what works for you.

I do not see significant savings of time by having the cache on, but I do see significant amounts of storage being used.  I suspect that if your show is not overly huge and your computer is relatively fast that the benefit is not that much.  I think it takes me more time to delete all the render cache stuff that is killing my backup times to external media.

What I've noticed, when I look at the actual files in the Render Cache folder is that the Effects that really NEED caching aren't cached.

Specifically, when I do Papagayo faces, they take the most time Rendering but they aren't cached at all. Instead it caches things like Pinwheels and Butterfly and Galaxy some Pictures. They aren't the things that really slow me down.
