I ordered some resistors to make DMX terminators, and it looks like either the company sent the wrong item, or I may have missed a digit when I ordered.  These are banded Brown Red Yellow Gold, which I believe makes them 120,000 or 120K ohms.  I believe all we need is for DMX is 120 ohms and 1/2 watt.  What's the harm in having 3 orders of magnitude more resistance than needed?  The listing did say they were 1/2 watt, but I don't think that's coded on the resistor anywhere to verify.  Anyone have any input on this?  I'm not an electrical engineer!!!!

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

It should be brown red brown.

Your resistor would be better than no terminating resistor but not much better.

Where is the best place to get that resistor.  Radio Shacks have all closed their doors here.  I can't seem to find it online anywhere. Thanks.

The "harm" if you can call it that is that they will not put enough of a load on the line to stop the reflections that they are put in place to do.  The wattage is not normally listed on a carbon resistor since that is usually determined by the resistors physical size.

Mouser is the place

http://www.mouser.com

The Mouser part number is:  603-CFR-50JR-52-120R

Buy 10 or more and the price is about 7 cents each. Shipping will be more than the resistors.
