I have ws2801 strings.  I am thinking about designing a controller or a modded ssc to produce the ws2801 protocol and output based on the pic 24fj32ga002.  I purchased flowcode v6 and trying to get back into programming.

Sounds like a great idea. Many people want more options for the Pixelnet protocol. Let me know if I can help. The current code for SSCv1,2,3 (TM18XX/WS2811  three wire) could easily be tweaked to do 4-wire strings. If you built the board I would be willing to port the code.

My first idea was going to use the modded v3 board and hook up additional wire to one of the ports for the clk out line.  I would like to see some source code to see what pins are being used.  This would be a prototype.  I know pin 15 is the data line out.
Thanks for the improved firmware.

David, would it be easier to code using spi ports or would you do manual clocking?  Pin 6 and 7 are not used and for i2c data and clk lines.  Rb7 pin 16 is not used.  It can be used for manual clocking.

You could use SPI ports. I did that on Falcon16. It would be easier to use SPI with 2801 then TX18XX chips.
