I have a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ as my FPP player with a Falcon PiCap installed. I upgraded my Player Raspberry Pi to FPP 8.3.1 and now I'm getting the following errors:
Abnormal Conditions - May cause poor performance or other issues
• RPIWS281x: ws2811_init0 failed.
Error code: -3
• Could not initialize output type
RPIWS281X. Check logs for details.

Disabling the PiCap, stops the errors. Please help!

Anyone? I ended up going back to 7.4 to get me going for the season.

Yes, I had the same issue with PI 5 on fresh install (8.5.1).  I reported it on github.  I did not have this issue on my PI 4 and I think it's running 8.4.1.

The Pi 5 has to have the DPI Pixel Virtual EEPROM installed

Ok, thanks for the tip!

Are you referring to the Cape Config: PiHat (DPIPixels - allows onboard audio) on Channel Outputs page?

I'll try that either way.  I was hoping for the default configuration to mirror my Pi 4 setup.

Yes, that is it.

The Pi 5 uses a different buffer method than all the other Pis, so it has to use the DPI pixels method.

Thanks!  That got my lights working.  I run two monitors as well using the virtual matrix.  They didn't come up. :(    Wasn't sure if it was a licensing issue or another PI 5 difference.

I'm using xLights/FPP to run a light show on 1:24 scale model.  I created a test setup: https://ratpark.substack.com/s/xlightsfpp

Again, thanks for the help.  Very time consuming figuring this out on my own.

Licensing has nothing to do with the Virtual Matix. What do you have set for the HDMI output?

This is how I configured it on my PI 4 and it works using the PiHat Cape.

**Channel Outputs**

LED String 0:  Start Channel 1, Pixel Count 144, End Channel 432
LED String 1:  Start Channel 433, Pixel Count 1, End Channel 435 (not active yet)
Virtual Matrix 1: Start Channel 436, Pixel Count 20736, End Channel 62643   (192x108)
Virtual Matrix 2: Start Channel 62644, Pixel Count 20736, End Channel 124851  (108x192)

Virtual Matrix 1 is on HDMI-A-1
Virtual Matrix 2 is on HDMI-A-2

** FPP Settings **
Default Video Output Device =  HDMI-A-1

I got it running (sort of) on 8.4.1 on a PI 5.  I updated github.  The videos quit playing after a minute so for now, I'm sticking with Pi 4 8.4.1.
