powering a Kulp K8-pi with 12V 50A 600W Switching Power Supply?

can this power supply be used to power the controller and pi or is the amperage too high?

The amperage is how much power it "can" supply and the voltage is how hard it is pushed. More amperage than what you are actually going to use is not an issue. The power supplies will adjust for the needs.
