Quote from: CaptainMurdoch on April 03, 2024, 03:38:59 PMI was able to reproduce the issue here with that config.  It had to do with the Pixel Overlay Model handling of the custom model and mapping the nodes to the channels.  I have a fix and will try to get it committed tonight after I get a chance to re-test.
Woo i helped report (poorly) a bug!

Thanks, i'll update tomorrow or when i see a new commit.

Thanks Chris. Do you ever fly south to hit the California mini?

CaptainMurdoch

The fix is pushed to the development branch.  Let me know if it still causes you problems.

I don't get South much, I don't think I've been to California since the last conference I attended for work back in maybe 2014.  I have wanted to try to get to some, but plans haven't worked out the past few years.  I don't think I have even made it to our local mini in Washington since at least a couple years pre-covid.

Ah, i understand. I've never been to the California mini, but i was asked to teach this year and bring my Automation class. This work was to setup a live demo i'll have there, with a new automation: Home Assistant turns on models a static color through FPP/MQTT, a smart plug with power monitoring checks current going into the pixel controller box, and if there's a bad pixel/pixels out as measured by a lower than expected current when models on (or higher than expected current with models off with pixels stuck on) it triggers a push notification that your display needs attention.

This in addition to my automated speaker control and snow machine control based on camera AI detections.

Would be cool to meet you if you do end up making it.

All else fails i do end up doing some stints for work out in Keyport, WA sometimes, so maybe i can stop by and say hi if you are close to Seattle.

It works fine, thanks

I just noticed with this fix that every model has pixel 1 not working. Maybe an off by 1 error on the index?

CaptainMurdoch

Thanks for reporting, a fix has been committed.  My start channel on my test model was off so I didn't notice the bug.  The node numbers in the custom layout start at 1, but our array is 0-based, so we needed to subtract 1 from the node number to get the correct pixel position.

Thanks.

Just got back from teaching classes at the Florida Mega Mini, and my integrations class was well received. Was surprising to hear how many users with year round pixels have been unplugging their FPP based or 'controlled by FPP anyway' pixel controllers during the off-season just to plug in WLED controllers for basic on/off/color control and integration with alexa/smart home devices. So my class quickly pivoted to "why you are wasting money buying WLED when you use FPP"... LOL.

So i suspect this might start getting more use. I plan to do an online zoom room class after i get back from the SoCal mini.

I was not able to get FPP v7 to compile in my virtual environment so haven't tested it with HA/MQTT/ local models like i have v8. Was it stable/working in v7?

CaptainMurdoch

As far as i know, it should have been stable in v7, but with the bug we just fixed.  I don't use it day to day, but my kids use it occasionally to control the inside frames in their windows which are normally left up year-round.
