Cannot Access FPP via hostname on Macbook

For some strange reason I can access FPP running on a BBB with a K8-B on all of the windows machines on my network. But my Mac doesn't find it by hostname. I can access it by IP on the mac and if I added it to /etc/hosts on the mac it can access it that way. I'm not sure if it's an FPP issue or a mac issue or a user ignorance issue. Wondering if anyone has encountered this or has a solution.

That is probably not a FPP issue.  All network devices will broadcast their information locally every so often.  This is my name, these are my shares, this is the user that is logged into me type of thing.  There is a browse master device on a windows network that remembers all of this and tries to keep track of everything on the network.  Your windows machine will look 7 places to try to resolve a name into an address.  Local Cache, DNS, WINS, Lmhosts file, hosts file, browse master, and broadcast. Seems like Windows devices have a few more locations to look than the MAC does.

I am not a MAC guy, but would think the MAC would try to broadcast for it.  However, broadcasts only work on the local network.  If the MAC was on another network than the FPP, it might not be able to find it that way.  Then you would need to add it to your hosts file or DNS server.  If both the MAC and FPP are on the same network it could be a firewall setting.
