Tired of the BeagleBone Black's heartbeat LED?

The LEDs in the BBB are really bright, much brighter than they need to be in my opinion.  My wife even complained about the pulsing heartbeat one when I had my BBB sitting on a shelf in the living room.  I searched around and found a command to turn off the heartbeat LED only.  The activity and disk access LEDs will still work and I'm fine with that for now.  The LED statuses are stored in folders from usr0 to usr3.  The command below only turns it off for your session, the LED will be back on reboot - helpful for troubleshooting and typically I just leave my FPPs running.  If you wanted this to persist you'd have to put this in a simple bash script and run it as the last file on boot or the link at the bottom has steps to put these into the rc.local file (have not tried myself).  Personally I just wanted to get rid of the annoying heartbeat till I rebooted.

To disable the heartbeat LED only run this from a SSH shell:
sudo sh -c "echo none > /sys/class/leds/beaglebone\:green\:usr0/trigger"

Information obtained from a few sites but the one below is helpful:

This is just my opinion/suggestion/viewpoint.  Others with other viewpoints/experiences may have different advice.  I am a hobbyist with a couple years real world experience, not an expert.

We'd like to actually make these configurable through the UI at some point.  Perhaps a light to indicate when a playlist was playing, E1.31 receive activity in bridge mode, etc..

+1, not a must but would be nice.  Glad it's being considered.

I went ahead and followed the instructions from that web link and added the command to disable the heartbeat only to my rc.local file.  I didn't do all the lines, just the usr0.  Now when my BB boots up I see the heartbeat until the bootup is complete and then it stops - nice.  And, as a bonus, I now can tell when bootup is complete and I can connect to FPP.
