Falcon F16V4 showing "Error in http response" when connected through proxy

I am running FPP 9.1 on a RPi 3B+ and a Falcon F16V4 with Build 38 firmware

Connecting to the FPP through wifi on the home network 10.0.1.1 (gateway) and 10.0.1.140 (FPP static assignment)
I have the 2 devices connected through ethernet on a separate how network 10.0.100.1 (FPP) and 10.0.100.2 (falcon) with static IP assignments.
I have the falcon set up a with a proxy on the FPP tab at 10.0.100.2

When I connect to the falcon through proxy, I continuously get a "Error in http response" error and I am having issues in xLights with getting it to display live.  I can get the falcon to light pixels if it is running a sequence loaded on the FPP.

Hardware worked previously before with FPP 6.5 (I think it was) and Falcon Build 26. I pushed updates to both and now have this issue.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have tried fresh FPP install with no change. When connecting to the F16V4 without the FPP proxy (if connected to my home subnet) it works without issue.

Can you share screenshot of your:
1. FPP Network page- Both interfaces, eth0 and wlan0
2. Your FPP Proxy page.
3. your Falcon network page.

If you can't post screenshots, then describe all the settings that you have configured.

The statement about connecting through proxy was in reference to the fact that if I connect to the falcon via the FPP using proxy, I get the error. If I set up the falcon to connect to my home network directly (without the use of the FPP proxy and using my home subnet) the falcon does not produce any errors.

While collecting the screenshots, I did notice that while on the "Network" tab on the Falcon, it did not appear to show the error, but when moving back to the main page it shows the error consistently.

But that is the question, HOW are you trying to connect? From a web page by typing in the IP address? From the link in FPP? From xLights?

So the page is actually loading, you are just getting an error on the Falcon Controller page.
I don't think the Falcon controllers actually use the DNS server, but is that a valid address? 

That error is typically a slow network. Connection directly to your home network, is that wired? But in the proxy configuration you are using Wi-Fi. Are you on a mesh system?

Thank you for the tip on uploading images. I could not figure it out.

Regardless of the method in which I navigate to the falcon; clicking on proxy link, typing in the proxy address directly, or using the link in xlights, it brings me to the same location and error.

When I tried connecting to the falcon directly I did it via wired and wireless both, but the majority of the time it was via wired ethernet. I will try moving the box this evening to make sure it's not a network connectivity issue. I have multiple UniFi access points in the house (similar to a mesh network but with an ethernet backhaul) and typically have stellar signal throughout the house but I'll double check that.

As for the DNS addresses, I followed the instructions and assigned my home router in the first slot and the Google DNS in the second.

The pictures all look like a valid config - just to be clear you have saved that proxy settings page. Perhaps a cat5 cable issue - just guessing as the config looks right.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll also swap out the  cable this evening as well as testing the box closer to an access point to see if I can rule out wifi connectivity.

And yes, the proxy page was saved and I can access the falcon by typing the full address with proxy into a browser.

Replaced cat5 cable with new cable with no change. Moved box to the same room as the AP with a measured signal strength of -42dB (really good) with no change. At this point it does not appear to be a network issue. I have a spare Pi4 that I may try and see if it's a Pi issue.

Confirming your config looks good. 

Can you ping the Falcon F16v4 from the FPP box directly?  Probably an easier way, but go the FPP help menu option, select _SSH Shell at the bottom, enter Username "fpp", Password "falcon", and then "ping 10.0.100.2" and see if you get a response.  If so, what are the reponse times, and are there any dropped packets?

64 bytes from 10.0.100.2: icmp_seq=40 ttl=64 time=0.403 ms

Only watched about 50 or 60 times but never saw a dropped packet.

After seeing this, I started thinking maybe it was the browser that was causing the problem. I'm on a Mac (w/ Apple Silicon if that makes a difference) and maybe not many other people use safari so I logged into the FPP with a Windows machine with Edge and no error! I then noticed that it may be somehow connected to the voltage and temperature updates. Every 2 or 3 graph updates, the blue bar across the top of the Falcon home screen makes an animation from right to left (visible on the Edge browser on Windows), but this animation does not happen on the Mac (safari) and I instead get the Error.  So, long story short, the issue appears to be connected to how Safari is getting updates. If anyone is interested in me doing any more testing please let me know.

So, at this point, all I have t do is find out why I can't get the lights to work in live mode from xLights, but I'm guessing that I have some setting messed up in xLights.

Just checked accessing it through Google Chrome on the Mac and it also works as it should, so the issue is clearly connected with viewing the page on Safari. Sorry for all the trouble.

Glad is it working for you.  Make sure in your xLights controller configuration, that you have the F16v4 listed in the IP Address field (10.0.100.2), and the FPP wifi interface (10.0.1.140) entered in the FPP Proxy IP/Hostname field.  You should be able to select the "open proxy" button and get to the controller if it is working. 

From there, make sure you go to xLights tools and hit the "Bulk Controller Upload" button to upload the configuration to the controller. Any changes to light strings requires that you upload the new controller configuration and render all of your sequences again.
