What do I have to do to get configuration web pages over WiFi?  Which mode does it have to be in?

I get that E131 is not going over WiFi. I understand.  Not looking for that.  I'm looking to have configuration webpages (and configuration through Xlights) go over the WiFi address so I don't have to have my Xlights or phone (to use the web page) be on the show network.

The controller WiFi address pings when "Idle 0" moves to "Idle 3", so that looks good.  Controller shows me "Idle 3 -78db" on the display, so it's a good signal.

I'm just at a loss on how to use the WiFi as a configuration method (either via Xlights or web page).

Works when I plug into the ethernet port and access it that way.

Hopefully someone will answer.  I keep seeing people talking about using Wifi on F4 and F16 controllers, but the manual only lists WiFi as a future enhancement.  Even with the latest 2.59 firmware, I can find no way to enable WiFi, and according to multiple WiFi scanners, none of my F4 or F16 controllers are radiating.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.

Basically the only wifi on the F16 (I have not knowledge of the F4) is as a remote.  I've never seen anything mentioned other than changing the status to a remote and putting fseqs on a uSD card.  It is not a full featured FPP.

And according to the manual, that is also an unsupported future feature.

You have to be in Stand Alone, Master, or Remote Mode. And that requires an SD card to be inserted. I believe it has to be FAT32 formatted and can be no bigger than 32GB.

It can be done with Firmware >=2.55 but using any of the Wi-Fi options in the Falcon controller creates some extreme limitations.

Why don't you just add a Pi in the mix and you can do all of that without the limitations of the Falcon Controller?

On the Status page, look at the controller mode. Don't change it to the other settings if you don't have an SD card inserted or you will lock yourself out until you insert one!

Discovered that one last night on a F4 that is not currently doing anything.  It would not even respond to a ping after changing to remote mode as a test.  After I put in a card, it did get it's DHCP address on the wired interface and the OLED said that it had a WiFi address, but according to multiple WiFi scanners, it was not radiating RF.

None of that is documented in the current manual that lists WiFi only as a future enhancement and the only controller modes are "Run" and "Test".

The F16v3 and F4v3 both have v2.59, and NEITHER are running the configuration webpage over the wireless address in "StandAlone Mode", nor in "Master Mode".

I could add an elf who goes around and does all the work for me to the mix too.  The point was to use the capabilities of the board.  I've done tons of ESP work and it's not far-fetched to assume that you could transfer things over the WiFi. Tasmota does OTA updates.  I saw the ESP module, and I saw it had a WiFi configuration, so naturally, one would assume the capability exists and that I just wasn't finding it.

If it's still unsupported, then someone please update the manual or have a matrix of capabilitiesWebpage Configuration: Wired - YES.  Wireless - NO would have saved me a few hours of frustration.

I am pretty sure I tested this earlier in the year and it was working, could you have a network configuration issue? In order for the Wireless to work, it will need some configuration changes beyond just setting it to one of the Wi-Fi settings. Can you post a screenshot of your F16 Configuration page when you change it to Master?

The capabilities of the board are there and working, but the capabilities has several limitations that might not make it work the way that you "think" it should. It was not designed to do what I think you want it to do and if you don't want to accept the limitations and use it as most people do then so be it.

Quote from: tinadmx on December 20, 2020, 01:55:28 AMI've done tons of ESP work and it's not far-fetched to assume that you could transfer things over the WiFi.
That is true, but the F16 was designed around 2015 and at that point, Wi-Fi wasn't a big thing and the "normal" method was to use a Pi with FPP. The "brains" of the current Falcon controllers are not fast enough to support the data transfer and it was never designed to do so. It would require a complete redesign of the board and I have a feeling that because it is still selling like hotcakes as is and works very well in E1.31 mode that there is no dire need to go through the redesign process. So why don't you just stick with the ESP products then?

Like I said, I am pretty sure I tested this and it worked. I will test it a little bit later and confirm.

Well, I just configured it for Wi-Fi and I can confirm that the Stand Alone mode does work.... BUT like tinadmx stated, you can't actually get to the configuration pages to set it up! You can't even configure your Playlists or Schedule while connected only through Wi-Fi.

Because of the other limitations of Wi-Fi I guess I didn't go beyond the testing of the Player and Scheduler aspects while connected only through Wi-Fi.

Are you volunteering?  The manual is written by people who donate their time and contributions are open to anyone.

The manual is "Copyright © 2017 PixelController, LLC. All Rights Reserved.".  Seems to me that the manual is copyright by the same people who SELL the hardware.  This is FAR from "donating their time".

As such, there's (1) no contributor guidelines, (2) no license agreement on contributions, (3) and no instructions on how to submit contributions.

But please, oh intelligent one, tell me more on this elusive method of contribution that just seems to stump someone as stupid as me.

There are several people that donated their time to write the Manual and they did not get compensated for doing it. They wanted to improve what was out there. (pixelpuppy is actually one of them!) And if you wanted to improve the manual, I am sure it would be gladly accepted. I agree that the manual could be improved in that area but to bad mouth the very people that have donated their time to help improve this hobby is a little out of line in my eyes!

There is this thing called email that will get to the company and there is also a phone number if you were so inclined.

Maybe I'm way off base here, but talking down to the folks who are on here and are willing to assist people with their issues probably isn't the thing to do. They do a pretty good job of helping folks through their issues. I for one am grateful the folks here are willing to assist.

Just one persons opinion.

Ya know, if you had answered something like: "Sure, I would love to.  What do I need to do to get that started?" you might get the answers you seek.  But instead, you come off as a total jerk who only wants to chew out the people who help around here...

Good going...
