Is there a way to auto-restart FPPD ?

I've noticed an issue through the years that sometimes I'll wake in the morning and the lights connected to one of my controllers are still on.  If I use the restart fppd service the lights will go out and all is well...until the next morning!

I'm running a raspberry pi with the latest Falcon software.

Is there a way to automate/schedule the restarting of the fppd service nightly?

Thank you!!

Yes.  There might be an easier way, but this is how I have done it in the past.  I have not used this in a while so may be outdated info.

Create a script by opening notepad or your favorite text editor and copy the below information into it.

****Copy after this line****

#!/bin/sh
###############################################################################
# restart-fppd.sh - Tell fppd to Restart fppd daemon
###############################################################################

# Tell fppd to Restart fppd daemon
fpp -r

**** Copy before this line *******

Save the file name as "restart-fppd.sh"

Copy the file to FPP by using the FPP File manager and place the file into the scripts tab.

Then create a playlist and instead of adding a sequence, add a script and then select the script you just created.

The question is if that really is the issue.   When fppd restarts, it sends an "All Lights Off" command internally to turn off all the lights.    Thus, if the issue is that lights are left on somehow or are picking up interference or something, scheduling an FPP Command of "All Lights Off" might be enough.   That can be done in the scheduler.

I just run a sequence at the end of the schedule called "All Lights Off". It is a 5 second sequence that just runs an "Off" effect on everything. That works well for me.

F.Y.I.  There was a new Falcon firmware build 30 released yesterday that addresses lights not shutting off.

Build 30 : 2023-11-29
- Enh : Add test mode where you can manually set the colour via web interface (3 and 4 channel pixels)
- Enh : Add CMY test pattern
- Fix : Playing sequence with audio from status page results in lights and audio getting out of sync
- Fix : When schedule ends lights do not turn off
- Fix : Nulls on smart receivers not being handled correctly

It sounds like you need to look at your sequences and check to see if you have any effects that go beyond the end point. "Check sequence" will find this problem if it exists.

The food restart script worked.  I tried the all lights off and it didn't work for me.

I haven't tried the new firmware nor have I run check sequence...not sure where that is..but at least when I wake the lights are off!!

Thank you all for the help and suggestions
