found this in the release notes for 20...
  - Fix : Looped playlists just keep playing the first step
this sounds a bit like your issue maybe... I would upgrade to the latest build and see if that fixes it for you.

Thanks for your suggestion and research.

In the meantime, I realized that I had left the F16V4 in the player mode.  Switching it back to E131 mode allowed the lights to come on.  I also found that xlights shouldn't have any sequences loaded when running xSchedule playlists, or flickering occurred.

The only remaining peculiarity is that I had to manually activate the loop icon even though the playlist schedule had the loop checkbox checked.  I found an earlier thread where someone else had the exact same behavior and his solution was to manually activate the loop icon.  That seems like an xSchedule bug to me.

so this entire post, you were talking about using the f16 as the player and setting up playlists on the f16.  Now you mention using xschedule as the player.  Which is it?  They are mutually exclusive, only ONE player.  If using xschedule as the player then the falcon needs to be in bridge mode (e131, or ddp) to receive data from xschedule but looks like you already got that figured out.

I'm new at this, so there are plenty of things I don't understand.

My application is an outdoor art installation that will loop the same playlist 24/7.  My first attempt was to use the playlist feature in the F16 web interface so that the display could boot up and run without needing to keep a laptop connected to it.  I ran into problems with that tool and decided to try xSchedule to create a playlist and schedule.  I assumed that I would need to keep a laptop connected with this approach, not ideal, but acceptable.

If there's a way to transfer an xSchedule playlist (with or without a schedule, either is ok) to the F16 so it can boot up and run as a player without a laptop, that would be great.  I just don't know how to do it.

If you have a Pi or BBB available, you put it into your case with the F16, run a short cat5 cable between the two.  Then install FPP on the either one.  You now can upload all your sequences to the Fpp over wifi and use FPP to play your sequences on a schedule.  The FPP will have to be connected to the internet or have a standalone clock module attached to maintain your schedule.  You can also have the box on a timed outlet and set the schedule to play 24 hr.  Then whenever you power up the box it would start playing. Needs a little more fleshing out, but not that hard to do.  I don't run standalone, but I have 6 F16s with Pi3s or better attached.  Case pictures here - https://photos.app.goo.gl/Pte1CNjeoMFwSU2j6

I installed Build 21 (the latest build that I saw) and it fixed the problem with the Falcon as a player.

There was a build 22, but there were some issues and it was pulled.  Build 21 is the current release.
