Falcon PiCap / Re: No RPIW281x on FPP 7.5?
Last post by Steve - Today at 02:19:36 PM
I've since found another post on here that confirms this problem, looks like:
Port 1 on the Pi-Cap is port 3 on DPIPixels
Port 2 on the Pi-Cap is port 24 on DPIPixels

So, where does this leave me....

Well I assume that I could continue with DPIPixels and add the licence so i can add 300 pixels to a single channel and use the audio output jack on the Pi for my sync'ed audio

or

Should I use PiHat, but can i output the sync'ed audio?

Thoughts and comments very much welcomed, thank you.

I've just removed the PiHat Eeprom and re-installed the DPIPixels Eeprom, guess what........ if i set channel 1 with the same settings (although limited to x50 leds, as I'm yet to install the licence) it does not control the lights, but if I change channel 3 down to 2 pixels it responds as expected.

I've removed the DPIPixels eprom and installed the PiHat............ Good news it lights using the test option and performs as expects, so the issue is with the DPIPixels eprom config. I assume the PiHat option will not allow me to plug-in a 3.5mm jack socket to get the audio output?

I'll now remove the PiHat and try the DPIPixels again..... will report shortly

Thanks all

Thanks, I'll check it out.  I liked the no-solder lifestyle of using the PiHat :D

Falcon Player (FPP) / Re: FPP 8 ui issues

If you exit the screen and come back, is it messed up again? There were some recent CSS changes and your browser might have cached the old settings.

Change you cape config to pihat dpipixels...

Now do the port 1 and port 2 act appropriately?

Been having some UI issues on the status page. Haven't seen it on other pages.

FPP Version:8.x-master-275-gbc771770
Platform:Raspberry Pi (Pi 3 Model B)
FPP OS Build:v2024-03

Doing a refresh does clear it up.

Quote from: Steve on May 19, 2024, 12:01:51 PMGroup Count - Not sure what this is.....?
Group count is used if you want several pixels to act as one. This should normally be set to 1

Quote from: Steve on May 19, 2024, 12:01:51 PMDo I then need to change all the other lines to a different channel so they are not sat on channel 1?
That is correct if you want Port 2 to be different than Port 1.

Quote from: Steve on May 19, 2024, 12:01:51 PMI assume that when I click test and select a patten it will then light all x300 leds?
That is correct, but there are several different ways to do a test. Which one you are using will make a difference in identifying the problem.

Quote from: Steve on May 19, 2024, 01:56:24 PMI've had a little more of a play and I can set the number of pixels and get them to light..... but only on port 3.
I am confused, most Pi-Caps only have 2 ports. What Pi-Cap are you using?

Quote from: Steve on May 19, 2024, 01:56:24 PMSo when I change the pixel count and RGB to GRB it responds and lights the pixels as expected.
So it is working correctly then? It sounds like it isn't from your other comments, but you state it is working as expected, so I am confused.

Quote from: Steve on May 19, 2024, 01:56:24 PMIf i put the same information into 1 and obvs change port 3 so its not the same..... it fails to respond.
If you put what "same information into 1"?

Your statements are very confusing as to what you are doing and what is happening.
Let's back up a bit and get a better description of what you have and what is going on.

What Pi Cap do you have?
How many pixels connected to port 1?
How many pixels connected to port 2?
How many pixels connected to port 3?
Are you using xLights?
How are you testing? (show screenshot of this testing page)
With your controller configured as you have it in the screenshot you posted, on the same page there is a testing option, describe the pattern that you get when you select the Port # option

Below shows config where only channel 3 causes the pixels to actually light.

Pls note I only purchased a x2 channel licence and if i try to change the pixel number past x50 on port 3, as expected it will not let me.

Sure, I did have a play but it didn't make much difference so.... Its a PiCap which means I only have x2 channels anyway. If i want to pop a single string of 300 leds on the first of the PiCap outputs I just need to set the following on the first line.....

  • Description - call it something
  • Start Channel - Leave as 1
  • Pixel Count - Set to 300 as i have x300 leds
  • Group Count - Not sure what this is.....?
  • Direction - Believe this is in relation to where the initial pixel is, so in this case its next to the input so thats forward
  • Colour Order - Mine are actually GRB

Do I then need to change all the other lines to a different channel so they are not sat on channel 1?

I assume that when I click test and select a patten it will then light all x300 leds?

Thanks all
