Pi3 as a show controller

Long story short, this year I tried to set up my show with efficiency in mind. Last year, ammo boxes, cat5 and extension cords littered my yard. This year, my show doubled in sized to approximately 12,000 lights.  There are three Kulp controllers, 2 K8s and 1 K 32, with all the lifting chores. Like last year, one of the K8s was serving as the show controller along with handling mega tree duties. 

This year, when I would run my show, I would end up with audio lag but the audio would speed up and slow down. Maybe that lag was discernible to only me, but it was discernible non-the-less. 

I was able to fix the lag issue by mounting an unused picap on a Pi4 and making it the show master. 

Now to the question, is anyone using a Pi3 as a show controller? I would like to return the Pi4 to its daily duty of being a print server for my 3D printer.

I've been using a Pi3B as my "main" controller since I started (2016) driving all the remotes (6+ PiZero/Pi3B, audio, and video (to a projector).  Never had any problem.

I used a pi2 (switched to pi3 last year) for the show player synced to 7 remotes with no issues. I've always run the player with no controller attached.
