Hi all,

Working on setting up my matrix and i realized that xlights only allows 1400 pixels per port and i need to configure a 5000 px matrix.

my controller is a Kulp K40D-PB using kulp BBB smart receiver v2.

Im still new to a lot of this so i was wondering if there was an easier way to run the matrix of anywhere between 1-4 ports on my smart receiver instead of having to un 2 different receivers. I know about splitting my model up between ports and if i have to, i will do that but i was wondering if there was something i could do with universes that would allow me to do more than 1400 px per port. Im still trying to understand how universes work and how to configure them so any help would be appreciated.

*EDIT* i just realized my brain turned off and that i could fit this on just 1 smart receiver but is there still a way to do more pixels on a port?

The bottleneck is the ws281x protocol.   At 40fps, it's impossible to output more than about 800 pixels per port.   You can put all 5000 pixels onto a single port, but then you would be restricted to just over 6 frames per second.   It would look horrible.

I would strongly suggest using two receivers (from two RJ45's on the K40) and keep it to under 800 pixels per port.

You can actually run 1800 pixels per port at 20fps on the K40. The limitation is NOT in the controller but the pixels themselves. The instructions go to the pixels in timed packets and based on the timing requirements of the pixels 1800 is the maximum.

Yes you can
If to err is human, I am more human than most people.

Thanks for the help. Since im running 20 fps, ill go ahead and put it all on one.
