Searching the forum didn't turn up anything and I couldn't find any documentation on the matter. Does using this mode remove the need for ID selection? If not, what does it do?

gsrunion

Actually disregard. It doesn't discuss that.

darylc

It detects the difference between the Falcon v3 & v4 protocols and the FPP v1 & v2 protocols so you can always set the dial to A-F rather than having to use 1-9 for certain combinations

I'm getting mixed signals. I was told the dial was 'mode' select and the dip switches are the termination switches. Say I am connecting a smart receiver up to the first RJ45 (labeled 9-12) on the Kulp K8-PI and not daisy chaining any controllers off of it. What should the combination of dip switches and dial be? I am getting light output when outputting a test pattern from the K8-PI, but with the pattern being and R-G-B cycle...the colors are a little off making me think I am losing some bits somewhere do to reflections (wrong termination) or smart protocol overhead not accounted for in software.

If you are using the smart receiver as a single device on the port, set the dial to zero and set ALL of the termination switches to on.

That would depend on the Receiver brand/model. But typically 0 is for Auto detect and running in Normal (dumb) mode. You can "force" a selection by setting the switches to lettered or numbered designations.

Depending on the test pattern/test device, that can be an expected outcome. Did you see the note on the page?
You cannot view this attachment.

What does that really mean? Are they chartruese when you want rose, or what?

Oops I left that part out. It is the SRx1 4.00. I did, however, remember to post the main controller.

red was red, follow by blue being more of a purple, followed by green being more of a yellow.... some bits being shifted right of where they should.

Ok. This was it. I had all the switches to off because I thought this mode of operation was 'normal' (or dumb) receiver mode. I did my best to RTFM but I couldn't find anything specific to this receiver and was trying to infer things based on docs for older receivers.

These switches have nothing to do with "smart" operation.  Termination is for the most part required to stop signal reflection on the end of the line which can and will cause issues like lights blinking, not lighting at all, and in your case, color distortion.  On "dumb" receivers, since it will be the only one in the line, there is no need for termination switches as the termination resistors are already in place and there is no need to remove them. With "smart" receivers, there is no way to know how many or which one will be the last one in the line and only the last one needs or should be terminated so the termination is switchable and set with either jumpers or in this case switches.  If the receiver is the last or only one in the string then set them to on otherwise, leave them set off.
