If you have an FPP based controller (or a stand alone FPP device), then you do not need a dedicated laptop.
I tested the battery option multiple times with multiple new batteries, could never get the controller to keep time. I ended up having to make sure the F16V4 had access to my Pi4 and the internet in order to keep the proper time....

While some controllers can supposedly function as a master I do not believe they really are robust enough to do that.  Their main function is to control lights and not be a master.  Might be fine for a single standalone unit, but there is also not very much maintenance on their firmware like there is on a full functioning FPP.  Back in my long ago LOR and Vixen days I dedicated a computer to run my show.  I will never go back to that.

As systems engineer I understand that.
It would be nice if the Falcon controllers came with a clock chip that Actually Kept Time....

There are many, many "would be nice" wishes, but if they all got done the the controller would probably be a lot bigger and lot more expensive and have a lot more bugs.  LOL
