I have a  Retekess TR508 FM Transmitter that I have used for a couple of years.  This year I am putting my orbi unit, ethernet switch, and some other devices in a large bud box.  It's a lot wetter and colder in the north and some of it got wet last year in my previous box.  The question is does this transmitter have enough power to transmit through the box or do I really need to figure out how to drill a hole and mount it so the antenna is outside the box? Alternatively is the another antenna option I have not found that has a cable and not direct mount.

Best practice is to keep your FM transmitter away from other electronic equipment, they are known to cause interference problems when close to other devices.

In general through, transmitting from inside a plastic case is fine.

I agree with keeping the transmitter away from other electronics - when the antenna is attached to the transmitter.
We use external antennas and put the transmitter itself in a box with close proximity with other equipment, including the RpI/FPP and the primary switch.  Absolutely no problems, now.  Once again, the trick is using an external.

BTW, this advice is for those with decent transmitters.  Some transmitters give off a heck of a lot of local "noise". YMMV.

My transmitter and antenna are inside my house along with my FPP master and a show router.  Works great and I can still hear sound around the corner from my house (transmitting on low power).  I have found no reason to put these sensitive electronics out in my yard.  By keeping my show router along the front wall of my home I get good signal all over my front, side, back yard, and even my basement workshop.
