Hey All,

UPDATE SINCE OP.  Greg Macaree posted on FB a link that answered and explained very clearly that the Pi 5 native on-board clock only has to have the time set (and a battery of course) in order to keep time.  Greg has a gift for explaining things.  If you haven't found his Youtube channel you should check it out.  It has volumes of 'reels' of video.

OP.......I posted a question about this on FB yesterday but haven't received a complete answer so I thought I'd try here.

Does the FPP OS recognize and allow you to use the clock that is hardware on the Pi 5's?

I don't have a Pi 5 yet so I haven't been able to test it but was wondering the best way to get time for my off-grid router without manually setting it every time I power up the FPP. 

I thought about adding a 'Rasclock' or similar clock 'HAT' like I have on my older Pi's but I'm toying with adding a m.2 HAT to plug in an SSD but from what I've read you can't 'double stack' HATs onto the GPIO headers and that a clock would likely want to use the same GPIO header(s) as the m.2 Hat....but I haven't been able to confirm that.

I just thought if FPP software would run the onboard Pi clock all I would need would be a battery for the clock.  But I haven't been able to confirm if the FPP OS gives you a choice for the onboard Raspberry clock like it does for Rasclock etc.

I would appreciate some feedback from those who have tried or have had success using the internal clock.

So, Dan Kulp has previously addressed this on this topic: https://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php?topic=17169.0

But, basically, you don't need to do anything. The Pi 5 will automatically grab the time from the onboard RTC with no configuration changes necessary. You'd leave the RTC setting in FPP set to None.

With the Pi 5 RTC battery installed, once the time is set while connected to the internet (NTP), the battery will hold the time from then on.

There would be no conflict in this case with adding a M.2 HAT as the Pi 5 RTC is onboard and uses its own dedicated battery connector rather than the GPIO header. No stacking issues
