to start with I'm using vixen and everything has been fine.  I rearranged and added an diff rx to the mix.  that one now has stuck channels and the rest are shifted by that amount (25).  would it be better to use the absolute address option rather that the universe  channel option, I'm using universe now.  I know that all the xlights gang is using absolute address since that is what it pushes to the controller.

Actually, with xLights you don't have to do anything with it. xLights will handle all of the channel assignments and upload them to the controllers for you. You don't have to worry about Universes or absolute channels. But of those that select to manually do it themselves, it is purely a personal preference.

Provided that EVERY controller you are using has that capability.

I'm not using xLights and some of my controllers don't support automatic configuration, so I don't have the option of automatic configuration or absolute channels, so I am using Universes.  And personal opinion is that I want to know how things are configured, so even if I was using all devices and software that could auto configure, I highly doubt that I would use that capability.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.
