hardware needed for Midi sequence start

Hi Everyone,   
We have a small DJ business and we use either Serato DJ Pro or Virtual DJ software to play our music at events.  We use a usb dongle called soundswitch to automate effects for DMX lighting we bring with.    We have all the fixtures loaded into Soundswitch and it works great.  We have a bunch of DJ lights in the windows and they work great when we play an MP4 file.   

We also started getting into pixels and have a raspberri Pi4 running FPP and it's connected to an F48v3 controller.  
We have all of that working as well and have created sequences for the pixels that are syncronized to MP4 videos.

Serato DJ Pro, Virtual DJ and even Soundswitch itself has a MIDI output option. 
My question is.  The Laptop that runs the DJ software and Soundswitch software.  Is running Lets say for example frostysnowman.mp4.    And my FPP is also going to play Frostysnowman.mp4.   How do I sync the two to start the song at the same time.  (or even close)     How do I connect it to the F48V3 controller or the RaspberryPi 4 I have that is running FPP for my christmas show.    do i just run a standard USB cable between the two?   I have very little MIDI experience so I'm a bit lost on how it works and what I actually need to buy to connect the laptop to the FPP.
