When writing an EEPROM out, one of the fields is the serial number for the board. (bytes 42-57)
Does this in any way play into the licensing activation?

I'm aware that the Pi/BBB serial is written into the signed portion of the EEPROM by the license server to prevent copying of the EEPROM contents from one cape to another, but is there any technical reason that all capes can't have the same serial number in the main field? (not withstanding any warranty etc requirements for the boards themselves)

I can't see it referenced anywhere in the FPP code other than for display on the front end.
