PiCap V2 - newbie questions

I just received a shiny new PiCap V2! I have it mounted to a Raspberry Pi 4, and I intend to power both via a 12V supply to the PiCap. There's a singular jumper on the PiCap, which I assume controls the source of power to the boards - but given the fact that I'm brand new to this business (I can't even spell LED), and since I can't seem to locate any documentation on the PiCap, it seems prudent to seek expertise here.

1) Can someone tell me what position the jumper needs to be in so that the PiCap will share the 12V supply to the Pi?

2) Also, what is the purpose of the battery on the PiCap?

Thanks!

John did a vid but he too just says it will optionally power the pi.

Here is a manual done by someone that covers the jumpers..

As for the battery - that is normally to keep a real time clock current so you pi knows the date and time when it is not powered.

The battery is used for keeping the time if the device is not connected to the internet and you need the time to keep a schedule otherwise it will get the time from the internet.  If no schedule is involved then it is not necessary to put a battery in the unit.
