By "log on", do you mean access the web UI?  If so, it sounds like your USB drive may be corrupt preventing the apache web server from starting.

Thank you Captain I scanned and repaired errors that worked
How does the USB get errors what can I do to minimize them
Should I put a door in side of Matrix enclosure so I don't need to take down again?

If you don't power down without a proper shutdown then USB errors due to software issues should be minimal.

If you put in a freshly formatted USB stick and boot up the PI/BBB, then FPP will automatically recreate its directory structure..

I just want to re-confirm.  So I have a BBB controlling six P10 panels and is in Bridge mode.  Before I shut the power off to the BBB for the night, do I have to login into the BBB and hit the "shutdown" button first?

jnealand

I never shutdown, but I do make sure no lights or show is running.

Thank you for responding.

Do you know if I just pull power from the BBB without clicking Shutdown, will that damage the BBB and/or file system/USB/SD card?

Thank you again,

jnealand

I meant that I pull power without doing a shutdown but first make sure there are no shows or light events in process.  It is the latter issue that will more likely corrupt something.  Once the system is idle there should not be anymore writing to logs on either SD, EMMC, or USB.  It is normally the process of something being written to a device when power is pulled that will corrupt files or devices.  It is just my way of doing things, there are no guarantees, just probabilities.

Oh, I understand now.  I thought you left the BBB and P10 panels powered up the entire month.

I highly recommend (if you want to power it down) that you take the time to log in and do a shutdown. If your RasPi or BBB is not easy to get to for repairs, the possibility of corrupting the system is worth the time it takes.

As Jim Nealand says, making sure nothing is running is a great step, but take the time to save some time.

Some people have taken the trouble to add a push button switch to a GPIO pin that will trigger the Shutdown.sh script. I may look at that next year.

My personal practice is to leave them on and accessible for FSEQ updates 24/7.
