How can I listen to the MP3 music from my laptop within my home

I have FFP installed on a BeagleBone and if I selected a MP3 file from the FFP file manager I can hear it play just fine on my laptop. But if I then try to play a playlist with that same MP3 I get the error of:

"Could not open audio device - ALSA: Could't open audio device. No such file or directory"

I have no intention of piping the music from the Beaglebone to the outside world, but just love to hear the music from within the house from my laptop as I look outside at the light display.

Anyway I can do this?

The BeagleBone doesn't appear to have an audio device on board by default, unless I'm looking at the wrong BBB model. I use a Raspberry Pi for my shows, and the Pi has a 3.5mm audio jack built onto the board. It looks like the BBB requires an external USB sound device.

When you use the "Listen" button on the FPP manager, the BBB isn't playing the mp3 file directly. The BBB is streaming the file to your browser, and your laptop is doing the work to play it. Without an audio device to render to, the BBB throws the error you see because it doesn't have a way to output sound.

So to see your sequences with music as played through your BBB, you'll need to get a compatible USB sound card, and that's where I'm out of my depth when it comes to the BBB. I'd bet a Soundblaster would work, but you might have to find and install drivers.
