Script runs manually, but never in scheduler or as part of scheduled playlist

I asked this in the FB group but never found a solution. I have a python script that does a quick calculation and updates a preset on one of my WLED controllers. If I run it manually, either from the script page or as a playlist, it works fine, but if I schedule that playlist, add it to the end of any existing playlist that is scheduled or put it in scheduler as a script to run, it fails to update, but with no apparent error. Any ideas why?

Primarily, it's a Command Type - Run Script scheduled once a day, about 10 minutes before anything else runs. When that wasn't working, I added it as a script item to run after every playlist.

I may have actually solved it. First, it was missing execute permissions, but additionally, another script meant to sync other WLED controllers was potentially interfering so I'm running some tests.
