Hi all, I've been running FPP on a Raspberry Pi 3 for probably a decade, but I was recently notified my WiFi5 router is end-of-life. I bought a new WiFi7 router and using the same SSID all my devices reconnected, except for my FPP Raspberry Pi 3. I've done a bit of digging and it seems like a Raspberry Pi 3 specific problem with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (the RPi3 is only 2.4 GHz) networks. I tried following some suggestions of separating the SSID into 2.4 Ghz -5G and -6G variants so as to not confuse the Raspberry Pi 3, but still no luck. The FPP syslog sends you down a wpa_supplicant-wlan0.conf rabbit hole on custom configurations to force the WiFI driver to only use 2.4 GHz, but these manual edits don't seem to survive a reboot. The network settings in the FPP GUI seem to overwrite manual changes you've made from a shell.

I use a patch cable and fixed ethernet IP address to directly connect my FPP to a FalconF48 (ie the 'show network' is the patch cable), so I need the WiFi to work to access the home network. This makes not having WiFi work on the FPP a deal breaker (especially since ethernet DHCP is disabled for the patch-show network). The FPP manual still notes Raspberry Pi 2 and 3 support, but I wonder with these WiFi issues if it's just time to upgrade to a Raspberry Pi 5 that will interface with 2.4 / 5 GHz networks better? Or does someone have tips on getting the custom wpa_supplicant settings to persist through a reboot?

Thanks

Go into the logs and Click Zip.
After a few seconds it will ask where to save them.
Then upload the logs here so everyone can see them.

I'm running Pi 2 3 & Zero V1's Pi 3 has a compatible built-in WiFi so that shouldn't be an issue.

What version of FPP are you running.  v9.5.1 had an issue Tethering before WiFi could connect.  v9.5.1.1 fixed that.  Verify your version

If nothing else.  Try FPP 8.5....  I have Pi 3, 3+, 4 and several Beagles all connected to wifi with no problems.  I have 17 FPP remotes.  I also have a new wifi 7 show router and am using the smart connect option - single ssid for all frequencies.  I am running FPP 8.5... with all updates.  I have Pi4 because of availability issues of the 3+ when I was adding more FPP remotes.  IMHO there is no need for any Pi greater than a 3+ unless if I was using a colorlight card I may want a Pi4 although the 3+ supposedly works with the colorlight.  I'm not saying the 5 does not work only that it is not needed and it runs a lot hotter based on what I've read.  YMMV.
