any idea when it will be released beta and when "production"?

darylc

Unsure right now, lots of outstanding bugs and problems to solve as far as I can tell. I'm thinking I'll stick to FPP 7.5 for my 2024 show at this point.

that bad, it's the one that supports Pi 5.

darylc

Yeah the Pi5's hardware differences forced a lot of changes that impact driving pixels, video/hdmi, gpio etc etc.

I'm running 8 on a Pi5 and other than Virtual Display, its running just fine. I don't have any "extra" stuff, just Controllers. Also a Pi4 in remote so I can see the virtual display. Been going a month +.

caniac

so far so good with 8.0 beta release

lwillisjr

Does FPP 8.0 run on the Pi5 only, or will it also run on previous Pis?

MikeKrebs

Running it on Pi3. I do not do much with it but it runs fine.

FPP Version:8.x-master-434-gfdc1cb7f
Platform:Raspberry Pi (Pi 3 Model B)
FPP OS Build:v2024-07

And I have it running fine on two PocketBeagles.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.

I have been testing V8 on a Pi4 with a touchscreen for months.
The new O/S is faster, and there are a few minor changes to the HDMI setup.
Overall I will be switching over to it for this years show.

I have a Pi5, it will be the new Player. They are still working on the issues associated to the GPIO's as the Pi5 ports have changed...
