I have a led matrix using WS2812b lights.  The main controller is an arduino running wled.  I have a pi 3 a+ with FPP installed and I use that to play videos on the panel.  It works great.  Yesterday the wall turned to its default mode "All orange lights" and I saw I could not get into FPP.  I tried to SSH into it as well but kept getting network time out issues.  I plugged the pi into a tv and it gave me this message.

[Time] Timed out waiting for device /dev/disk/by-label/boot
[depend] Dependency failed for /boot.
[depend] dependency failed for local file systems.
[depend] dependency failed for file system check on /dev/ disk/by-label-boot.
[failed] failed to start network service
You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" or exit to boot inside default mode.

Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked.
See sulogin(*) man page for more details.

But it wouldn't let me type anything.  I ended up doing a fresh install of fpp on a different cd card.  Anyone have any idea what happened?  I hadn't changed any settings, or messed with it at all when that happened.

Most likely the SD card died.   That sounds like it wasn't able to read various sectors off the SD.

It was weird.  I was able to plug the sd card into a reader and pull the media files off but yeah couldn't get it to boot.

On an aside, I tried putting the media files back on the new sd card using disk genius to access the partition.  But the files weren't visible in the fpp browser.  But when I did the same with the playlist and sequences it was fine.

And when I would put the media files into the video folder, plug the sd card into the pi, then plug it back into the sd card reader, all the media files would be in a lost and found folder.  The only way I could put the media files back on was through the brower or ssh.
