Hi,
Total newbie here. I am using a Rasp Pi 3 and FPP 6.3. Burned the image on the SD card and the PI boots, but it opens in terminal mode not the GUI. I tried several things to open a browser on the PI, but no luck. I can't access it remotely, through Fpp.local or the ip address.

I must be missing somehting but I'm not sure what.

Thanks for your help!

If you are installing a fresh system, you should really use the latest v7.5 image.  FPP is normally accessed using a web browser over the internet, there is no local GUI.  Kiosk mode can be setup on a system and it will run a local browser to view the FPP web UI, but this is a specific use case and is not the default.

Try FPP v7.5 and if you still can't access it over the network via a web browser, we can try to help troubleshoot.

Thanks Captain, I tried installing the FPP V 7.5 through the imager, but it wouldn't boot at all. One of the videos that I saw on youtube was using 6.3 so I took a chance on that one. When the Pi boots, I get the terminal that says to use fpp.local to open the GUI, but I can't access it from another PC. I tried the IP address as well and that won't open.
Can I open a browser through the terminal on the PI?

Tried 7.5 again.....
new Pi 3 out of the box
new SD card 32mb
ran Raspberry Pi imager - other specific purposes - FPP
installed and verified
put SD card in Pi
boots into terminal and asks for password - there was no option for setting a password in the imager

Here's where I get stuck every time. The terminal tells me the ip address of the PI but I can't log in to it, same with FPP.local

What IP address is it giving you and is it in the same network space (first three numbers the same) as the computer that you are attempting to connect to it with?  What browser are you using?

I'm getting a couple of things out of what you are writing.
1. You may not be using a browser like Chrome or Firefox of Safari to try to open the browser.
2. The Pi may not be connected to a network.  They work great with wifi, but you must first get to the gui to configure it to access your network.
3. If you do not have it plugged in to the network via cable FPP with start by being a wifi hotspot.  You must then connect to the Pi using that wifi network.

The manual will be your friend here.  I have not used the hotspot mode recently so I do not remember the id and password without going to the manual so I suggest you go there instead.

Good luck.

Thanks Jim,
I am using Chrome. I can't get to the GUI. When I image the SD Card, there is no option for setting a password. I'll check out the manual.

That address is the address that is assigned when FPP is in WIFI tethering mode.  You will not be able to use that address unless you also log into the wireless network that FPP has created.  The network name is FPP and the password is Christmas.  You could also plug the PI into an Ethernet port on your network and reboot it Then it will get an IP address on your actual network.  Form there, you can set up the WIFI on your PI to connect to your actual network.

Like it was mentioned, it sounds like:
1. You have a monitor and keyboard connected to your Pi. That is not how you use FPP. You access it from your computer.
2. You do not have your Pi connected to a valid network.

Like was mentioned you can access your Pi using the wireless network it is broadcasting or connect it to your home network, NOT directly to your computer.

There is an FPP Manual that has a quick start section https://falconchristmas.github.io/FPP_Manual.pdf
And this video might help, it is based on an older version but is still accurate.

If to err is human, I am more human than most people.

One standard advise.  Do not connect a monitor, keyboard, or mouse to the RasPi.  Truing to operate locally will only create confusion.  There is litterally no useful information there and lots of things to confuse you.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.
