Thanks for the reply.

I must be doing something wrong then

I have the SRX4v4 connected to port 17-20 on the K16A_B
12 volt power supply connected to the SRX4v4
I should be able to hit the test button and it test the lights with out any connection to the k16 correct.
if so that is not happening i have tested these lights with another controller and they work fine.
Could i have a bad board?
or am i doing something wrong?

Correct, the test button on the receiver does not need to be connected to the controller to make the lights work.

You could.

That is a possibility as well. You could have the pixels wired backwards or the pigtails not wired correctly.
If to err is human, I am more human than most people.

I am having same issue, except i have 2 of the same smart recievers brand new and i have the same problem with the test button on both smart recievers. im wired to 12v power supply ground to ground and positive to positive the lights on the board fire up but my pixels wont lightup i press the test button. i tested the pixels with the same plug on my controller and they light up fine. Any other ideas that may help

Make sure that you are connecting to the correct end of the string.  Don't do be the connector because with the SLR connectors, there seems to be a confusion on which end is the input.  Look at the first pixel and make sure that the side with the connector is connected to the input side of the pixel.  The center pin on the side the wire is connected to should be labeled as DI.  If it shows DO or no label at all, you are connecting to the output side of the string and they can't work that way.
