Backup SSID Preventing Connection

My (primary) wireless setting works properly (FPP connects as it should).  However, when I simply add a backup SSID and reboot, the FPP no longer connects to my router (through the primary network).  Nor will it connect (to primary) when I delete the backup SSID.  At this point, I'm only able to connect through tethering.

The only way I can reconnect is through performing a FPP backup. complete reinstall.

I'm on a Mac, FPP 8.3.1, Pi3B+.

I have not noticed that setting before.  What do you mean by a backup SSID?

A recent (?) update allows you to enter TWO networks—primary and backup.  The FPP will try to connect to both.

I think my current issue is actually worse though...any attempt to change/tweak the primary network settings prevents any WiFi connection (even when returned to the original setting).

So I don't think this issue is strictly related to backup network, but bombs at ANY network interface change.  I can only connect through teetering.

It takes a full reinstall to get it back in my primary network

This has error has been easily reproducible (with multiple different uSD cards):.

  • Format a new uSD (8-32 gb) with SD Card Formatter.  Burn FPP-v8.3-Pi.img using Balena.
  • Insert the card in a Pi 3B+, connect by tethering (as usual).
  • Perform all the normal setup activities (set location, and grow file-system).  Reboot and connect through tethering (again).
  • Enter my network/password credentials in the network section.  Reboot.
  • FPP connects to my network (using a DHCP assigned address).  At this point, everything behaves as normal/expected.
  • I go back into the network settings and tweak either the network name or password (or try to set a static IP address).  Reboot.
  • As expected, FPP doesn't connect to my network (as the wrong name/password was entered). I'm able to reconnect by tethering (192.168.8.1).
  • I then go back to the network credentials and update the network name/password (to the correct setting).  Reboot.
  • From here on out, I'm unable to reconnect my my network--only through tethering. I'm simply unable to get any connection back to my router (after multiple attempts at re-entering the network name/password and restarting).

Am I simply overlooking something crazy obvious here?  I've reformatted several different cards, and used two different Pi 3B+...all with the exact same reproducible error.

Now that I somewhat got things stabilized (ie never touch the network page once it's set), I'm seeing that there is a significant TIMING offset between the main (audio) and all my remotes (lights).  It only occurs on a handful of song, but it's consistently those songs through each cycle of the playlist (so it's not a router delay that's sporadic).  And even in those cases, all my remotes are in-sync (so it's not that my remotes are loosing Wi-Fi access).

Of course I've tried to reupload and power-cycle everything, with no resolve.

I was able to get everything back to normal and running properly.

Thanks to 7.5!
