Can't get k8-pi and Raspberry Pi 3 B+ to work

Hi all, I bought a k8-pi (v2.0) a few months ago, and I can't for the life of me get it to work.

I've tried 8.1 and 8.3 images - burning fresh new copies and going through the initial set up.  I get the '/opt/fpp/src/OutputMonitor.cpp:534: Could not find pin pca9675b-0 to enable output Port #1' error.  I've also tried 7.5, no joy there either.

For now I just hooked up some pixels and am trying to display test them.  It will sometimes work, but the current monitor doesn't seem correct (ie, it says all ports are disabled when they are actually on).

Is there something simple I'm missing?  Thanks in advance!

My about info on my latest try on 7.5:

I think misread your post.  You should be able to image the SD using BalenaEtcher or DotNet Disk Imager.  Insert the SD card, power on the Pi, and then from your laptop/desktop type in the ip address the Pi pulled from DHCP, or type ffp.local into a web browser on your computer.  A lot of new users try to connect a monitor to the Pi instead of managing it remotely from a web browser and just want to confirm you are not one of them.

Where are you seeing the error.  In the FPP logs?

If you have been fighting this for a while, you should probably try the xLights Zoom Room.  https://zoom.us/j/175801909?pwd=ZU1hNzM5bjJpOGZ1d1BOb1BzMUFndz09

Hi JonD, thank you for the quick reply!  I don't think imaging is an issue here.  I'm using Rufus, and am able to boot the Pi without issue.  Nope, not hooking up a monitor - I'm able to set up and access everything through Chrome.

I see the errors in the red block on the 'Status' page.  I'm also SSH'ing in and looking at the syslog, which shows the issue and then the crash dump.

I checked out some of the recent issues on Github, and saw some similar problems that were fixed in 8.2, and others saying they moved to a Pi4 and it worked.  Unfortunately I haven't found a version that works, and I don't have a spare 4 here, so I'm working with the 3B+.

Right now I'm trying to debug if it is a self inflicted issue - am I configuring something wrong?  Or if the board is bad.  So, if anyone had a working combination - ie, if they could say they downloaded version X, imaged it, and booted it on a Pi 3B+ and it worked fine, I could try to reproduce that and see if the issue is hardware, software, or configuration.  Thanks!

JonD

I have a few K8-PI (v1) and they do not like Pi4s and had to replace with Pi3B+ boards last year.  Not having that issue, but do not use them in production.  I think @jnealand has one of these and will tag him.  Maybe he will respond back you.

Yes, but I also have 7, yes, seven new controllers.  yikes  Just finished 3200 new pixels for upgrading one of my mega trees.

You've been a busy boy this year!
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.
