Can that be downloaded or does one have to just update to the latest version in order to work. Forgive me if that's a silly question.

It isn't a silly question at all. Right now, the fix is in the Master Branch, the developers will not usually create updates for every time they add a change to the code (sometimes there are several in a single day) The changes/fixes will sit in the Master Branch until the developers have the time to create the update code.
If you want to get to the Master Branch, then go to FPP>Settings and change the UI level to Developer and you will get a new tab called Developer. In that tab, change the Git Branch to Master and it will update, don't do this while you are playing your show or if your show is going to start in the next 20 minutes or so, it could take a little while to complete the update process. Do not interrupt the update process. After it is completed, I would recommend setting the UI level back to Basic or Advanced. The Developer mode exposes some settings that if you do not know what you are doing can cause your FPP to not function... Just a little safety precaution.

Can confirm that;
1-instructions are easy to follow. Can't say that it went off without a hitch. Had to rebuild fppd and doing it via the rebuild button in the red banner failed twice. I did find a button on the developer tab for rebuilding fpp and it seemed to do the trick.
2-the issue previously discussed is no longer present.

Thanks so much
