Raspberry PI 4 won't connect to WIFI

Good Evening All,

I am having a few problems with my set up.  This is my first year with this hobby.

I am running a Falcon F16v4 with two smart receivers running two (2) Boscoyo 7'4" candy canes.  I am running them with a 4 strand 50-pixel matrix in each candy cane also.

My first problem is my FPP is not recognizing the two smart receivers while daisy chained.  I am able to get it configured with both smart receiver ports in use but would be forced to run two ethernet cables to my smart receivers from my controller instead of just the one.

My second issue is my Raspberry PI 4 is not connecting to my WIFI.  I was able to configure static IP addresses for both eth0 and wlan0.  I access the PI using a laptop and connect with the eth0 and when I type in the wlan0 it will show connected, but when I pull the ethernet from the PI I lose my WIFI page also.

I thought it was a PI issue and have gone into it using the OS card to set up the WIFI via the task bar.  I signed in the first time but failed to restart the PI so the settings didn't take.  I went back into it, reset the WIFI configuration and this time restarted the PI.  That time it appeared the configuration took.  After shutting down the PI and reinserting the FPP card, I was not able to access the WIFI from the PI again only from ethernet.

Does anyone have any insight into these problems.

Much thanks for any and all help.

Mike

Can you elaborate what you mean by this? FPP does not communicate with the receivers, it basically just sends out channel data, it doesn't care what make/model or configuration the controller is.

The configuration for the receivers is done in the controller, but xLights can configure the controllers for you and is probably the best way to do it. In xLights, set the Vendor, Model and Variant, then set Auto Layout Models, Auto Size and Full xLights control. Open the Visualizer and drag your models to the ports in the order you are going to configure them. For the Smart Receivers, drag the models to the ports and then right click on the model to select the receiver type (A,B,D, etc). Then upload your outputs and also go to FPP Connect to upload the required outputs. (UDP All)

Do you have a Gateway set on your eth0 interface? How about screenshots of your network settings?

Thank you for your response.

I'll try your suggestion regarding xLights.  I noticed too in the "Layout" tab you can reference the smart receivers and the letters on each prop.  Should I also configure my props there?

I don't have the gateway on the ethO side set, I just left it blank, but on the wlanO side I did put my gateway.  In looking at the FPP manual also, it stated to change the DNS settings.  Using the example in the manual I set my gateway on the first DNS setting and 8.8.8.8. on the second.

When I purchased my PI, it was a kit containing the OS on a micro SD card.  I loaded the PI and got everything set up on it, except of course the WIFI which has been done already.  I shut it down and using a "clean" micro SD card I downloaded the FPP software onto the PI.  Should I have downloaded the FPP utilizing the card with the OS on it?  Could that be the reason the PI is not connecting to my WIFI?

I knew when I started this the computer and networking were going to be my biggest issues.

I appreciate all help and advice.

Thank you again.

No, that is the old way for people that prefer to do things manually. Just use the Visualizer.

And what is "my gateway"?  Screenshots would really help us out here

That is not needed or used for FPP

No, it doesn't work that way, The Pi has no "memory" everything is on the SD card and FPP has it's own OS.

Quote from: newtoitall on November 30, 2022, 09:09:54 AMCould that be the reason the PI is not connecting to my WIFI?
No, if you look in the Manual, it has step by step installation instructions and information on Networking as well if you need info on that. Make sure you are looking at the most recent manual https://falconchristmas.github.io/FPP_Manual(6.0).pdf

Thank You for all of your help.  I've been able to get my FPP to connect to the wifi and I have also been able to get it to play my sequences on my controller but only when connected to a switch while connected to my router.

The problem I am having now is the FPP will only play the sequences to the controller.  When I disconnect the internet, I can only get audio and no light show.

When I was able to play the show while connected to the internet, my FPP output was set to "DDP-RAW CHANNEL NUMBERS" and my Falcon F16v4 was set at "DDP"

My "Unicast address" was also set to my controller's ethO IP address.

I've tried to change all my settings to different combinations in an attempt to get the FPP and the controller to communicate with each other.  I will "Ping" the different configurations but the only time it works is when my whole set up is connected to the internet via ethO in some way.

Again, any and all help is appreciated.

Thank you

Sounds like a networking problem. How about screenshots of all of your network interfaces? Did you review the Network section in the manual?
Why would you disconnect the internet? Or is it a mistake in terminology?

That should work in just about any scenario.

Describe how everything is connected together and things in between like routers and switches. Include screenshots of all network interfaces.

I'm not sure that my attachments made it, but if they did, the first image shows my FPP Status page.  It looks like it is trying to retrieve data for display, but is not getting anything.  The second image shows my desired setup.  Somehow, I have bungled the FPP setup/network config.  I can access the FPP on its wired network but not on my home wireless network.  I also can't setup my 1.31 outputs on the FPP.  Any help would be appreciated.

rbarry1068

OK,  I've uploaded two files, one showing my desired/attempted configuration, the other showing my FPP status page.

In the future, please post screenshots, not pictures of your screen. Pictures are hard to see and sometimes don't show all of the relevant needed information. In your first screenshot and the others that I can see, it doesn't look like FPP has booted all the way, there is no status display in the header. you might have to re-boot or Power Cycle. Other than that, your settings look correct.

My FPP status page never displays any status.  It seems to be hung up doing something else.  I'm going to try dropping back to the FPP 6.1.1 version to see if that will work for me.

rbarry1068

FPP V6.1.1 does the same thing!  At least I'm consistent.  I must be missing something on the final configuration process.  Anyone had this problem?
