I want to use FPP on a Raspberry Pi 4 with an F16V4. I will not have Internet during my shows.

How can I add a clock? I saw that there are hats/components that provide an off-line clock, but they seem to need some commands for installation that seem to be easy to use on RaspberryOS, but how could I install them with FPP?

Thanks!

Poporacer

It is a simple setting in FPP, no commands needed. Jou just the too select the type of clock you are using.

Ok, thanks for the fast response.

If I understand it correctly, I can set a time manually.

But what happens if the Raspberry is not continuously powered?

Without battery, it probably forgets the time and needs a new manual setting, right?

If so, what is the best way to avoid that? That's why I looked for an extension for the Raspberry.

Or do I misinterpret the situation?

If the PI looses power it will lose time.  You can set it to pull from another local device that does not loose time in a power outage using the NTP service, or you can install a realtime clock hat on the PI.  If you install a Pi hat, you would just select the one you have from the drop down.

Is there a reason that you will not have internet during your show?

@Poporacer: Yes, the reason is that we will run the show at Burning Man in the desert of Nevada. Not many cellphone towers there :-)

Thanks @JonD: so, you are saying a Pi hat doesn't need an install in an OS, but just a selection in FPP. Sounds good, I'll look out for an appropriate hat.

OK, that makes sense!

That is correct

This is the external clock I use and it works really well.
Also, if you get a rechargeable battery for it, when the PI is powered on it will recharge the battery.
