I currently use rope as my guy lines on my mega tree but I'm going to make some changes this year and due to increased number of pixels, not height I was thinking of bolstered my guy lines.  I was thinking of using ratchet straps as theses would seem to allow me to easily adjust tension as needed.  The only concern I have is attaching them to the pole/anchors.  I'm concerned if there was swaying or movement of the tree the hooks would come out of what they are hooked too.  This would not have an ideal outcome.  If someone is using ratchet straps, how do you attach and not worry about the hooks coming out?  Is it possible to bend hooks to a "closed" position and use carabiner?  Does this decrease integrity of the metal hook?

I use ratchet straps on my pixel tree - but not the way you are likely thinking.  My pixel tree is a flat tree with a Unistrut frame (think A frame shaped).  Because of the way the pixel strips attach, there is quite a bit of force trying to bend the frame forward.  To counter that, I have a 4 inch long 3/8 inch eye bolt attached to the back side of the frame on each side of the A frame near the top and another below the crossarm that the bottom of the pixel strips are bolted to.  Then I use a ratchet strap between the top and bottom eye bolts on each side.  I tension then enough to keep the unistrut straight.  Works very well and I have never had any concern of the strap coming loose.  Note that there is likely a couple hundred pounds of tension on each strap.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.

I use M8 turnbuckles.  My guy wires are wrapped up in a coil at the end of the season.  I connect the wires to the top of the tree, place the turnbuckles on the ground end, and open buckles as wide open as they will go.  I stretch the guy wires out, place the ground anchors so that the buckle will barely clip on, then screw in the anchor into the ground.  Clip the guy wire onto the anchor, and tighten the turn buckle until it is snug tight.  We use a level on the megetree to make sure the pole is level, and tighten the buckles accordingly.  It only takes a few minutes to install them.  I have never tried using a racket strap, but happy with the turnbuckle solution.

P.S. This would not work as well if the guy wires were used to support the entire tree.  Our tree is on a stand and the wires are only used to keep the wind from blowing it over.  We do get high winds and it is held up to 60-70mph winds so far.
