You can do either. I am using the HVME as the FPP boot and fully expanded it allows me to backup my other Pi's to it.

I've been thinking of doing that to my Pi 4 looking to give me some headroom on Read/Write as my show gets bigger.  Dumb question:  Do you still need an SD card or are the OS and all files stored on the Nvme?  I'm assuming when you let the PI "expand memory" it uses all the space availableon the Nvme?

My understanding so far is it will be backward compatible, but I am not a programmer.....
My test Pi is a 5 because I got one cheep and added an HVME drive to it.

Running V9 on 3B+. Not doing anything interesting. Seems to be stable.

Thanks for the response Breese.

I was doing a fresh install on a new Pi 4 so I don't know if 8.4 works for me or not!  Haha..  I just went to the 8.4 released thread a while back and downloaded 8.4.  When I got the new Pi 4 I simply installed the previously downloaded 8.4.  After installation I thought I'd check the website to see if a new release was pending while kicking myself for not checking before installation....DUH....  Anyhow, when I went to the site I saw that 8.5 note up top.

You mentioned using FPP version 9 on your Pi 5.  Is version 9 going to be backwards compatible or will it just work on the new 5 models?

While there are some patches going into 8.5.1, if 8.4 is working for you, stick with it.
There is a lot of work being done for 9.X but that is Beta (but seems to be working on my pi 5).
If you have a spare SD card, you could always install 8.5 and do all the updates to make it current and see how it is for you.

Hi All,

Can someone help me out?  This thread (FPP 8.4 released) would seem to indicate (as the latest release is usually posted here) it's the latest release yet up at the top of the page out beside "News:" it says that FPP 8.5.1 is the latest release.

Is 8.5.1 a beta or some test platform and us novices should, instead, stick with FPP 8.4?

If it is a Player, that means that it is the "conductor" of the show and nobody should be telling him what to do. But you configured your Pi-Hat to also listen to the Show player. This is NOT a normal condition and that is the reason for the error message.
You probably want the Pi-Hat to be a Remote (AKA Listen for instructions from the show player). And then when a button is pressed, play the sequence that you want it to play and when it is done, revert to listening to the show player.

Possibly.

Falcon Player (FPP) / Abnormal conditions, received ...
Last post by Paulanator - May 18, 2025, 04:02:35 PM
I am using a Falcon Pi Hat and have set it up for angel wings with 5 buttons. I have that all working great.

My goal is to have the wings part of the show from the master controller and when someone pushes a button the wings stop the main sequence and run local static sequence for about 1 minute. That is working great. Then it goes back to the main show after the minute.

I am running the Pi Hat as a player, and it receives data from the show, then when a button is pushed the wings run the sequence for the button pushed.

The only little issue is that when the button is pushed the pi gets the error: Abnormal conditions, received bridging data while sequence is running.

If it seems to be working, is this ok to ignore?

I have seen a video where someone put a relay in on his setup, but mine seems to be working, but I was just concerned about any other issues I might be causing.

Thanks
Paul

Falcon PiCap / Re: PiCap V2 - newbie question...

John did a vid but he too just says it will optionally power the pi.
https://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php?action=recent

Here is a manual done by someone that covers the jumpers..
https://github.com/nick-diel/Falcon-PiCap-Manual

As for the battery - that is normally to keep a real time clock current so you pi knows the date and time when it is not powered.
