Please help troubleshoot random flashing

I just got my picap all set up with 281 pixels on one channel and 50 pixels on the other.  I have a program with static red/white colors and I am getting random color flashes through the 50 pixel strand. The flashing is solid red green or blue and the location is completely random. Is this likely a bad pixel strand, bad data/ground, or a programming issue?

The easiest way to begin testing is to swap the strings to the opposite ports on the picap and change nothing else and see if the flashing follows the string or stays on the specific port.  Yes, the strings are different lengths and switching them will only partially light one string and have way too many channels for the other but the strings don't care and the picap doesn't either.  If there is an issue with the string, it will do the same thing on either port and since it is the shorter string having the issue, moving it to the other port will still have it fully lit so if it is a string issue, it will still show the same problem.  If the issue is a port issue or programming, the larger string will only be partially lit but the 50 lit pixels will still show the same strange behavior.  .
