I have tried Falcon PiCap and rPi-28D on a RPI 4 and still get the same abnormal condition error.
I do not get any output to the pixels when I try the FPP Test Page.
Need help figuring this out.
Thanks

Can you see if this is a Pi 4 v1.5?  It looks like there is a new version which would require the ID to be added to the rpi_ws281x library and that is possibly why it is failing the init routine.

If so, we can provide a script which you could use to update the library on your system, but I don't know if we will pull that change into the v5.5 release branch.

FPP v6.0 should not need rpi_ws281x to drive the WS281x pixels because we are currently testing new internal code which is a replacement for the external library we depend on now.

Your subject line says WS2801

Is that what you are wanting or is it the much more common WS2811 protocol?

Sorry,I am using WS2811 and Mis-typed the subject line.
I went to the Pi terminal for both Raspberry Pi 4's and they are:
Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5

If FPP 6.0 will solve this issue, would it be reasonable for me to wait on FPP 6.0?Wanted to try the capes for a Halloween Light Show.

FPP 6.0 doesn't have a date yet, but it will definitely be released in time for Halloween.

The changes mentioned above in 6.0 may be working already in the Master Branch. I don't own an rPI-28 to verify but have checked with a Falcon PiCap. (DPIPixels-2 option in Channel Outputs)

Yes, the new code is working in master, so either you can switch to master for testing or I can post a script or commands to update the library to a newer version.  Either way you will want to re-image with v6.0 when that comes out mid-year sometime.

We went ahead and pulled the library update into the v5.5 release branch, so if you are running v5.5, and pull in the latest updates, then you should be able to use the newest Pi 4 to drive ws281x pixels.

That's an unrelated minor bug in the API code, thanks for pointing it out.  I have a fix and will get it committed.

I have the same setup with a rpi-28D+ with a raspberry pi 4 rev 1.5. I'm having the same error code and I can't get the test function to work. I've reimaged 5.5 a few times and I've upgraded within fpp with no luck. How can I fix this?

@CaptainMurdoch, I was helping Grant above in the zoom room the other night.  The current updates to the ws281x libraries seem to not yet contain his hardware revision number.. I can see that b03115 was added for the 2GB rev 1.5 pi 4 but his is a 4gb version which has c03115 for hardware revision (see attached).  Also it appears as if the 8gb version of the rev1.5 has a hardware revision of d03115.  Can these revisions get added to rpihw.c as well ?  Please and thank you :)

Thanks for the heads up.

Once the library maintainer pulls in the pull requests to add the config lines for the 4GB and 8GB versions, we can update our code to pull in the updated version.

How will I know when the version is updated? I'm in no rush I'm just curious.
