Hi

I think i'm missing something when it comes to understanding xLights and my F-32B controller.  I've got xLights sending information to the controller and verifying settings are changing when I sync.  Here's the test setup I started with that won't work

Controller Port 1 - String Light
Controller Port 2 - String Light

xLights

Setup

8 x E1.31 Added
512 channels
Unicast

Layout

1 x Tree Added

  • 1 Strand
  • 50 Nodes
  • 5 Strings
  • Controller Connection Port 1
  • Protocol WS2811

1 x String Added

  • 1 Strand
  • 50 Nodes
  • 1 Lights / Node
  • Controller Connection Port 2
  • Protocol WS2811

Sequence

When running the sequence I can see the tree is lighting up at certain times and the light strand is lighting up at others when I run the test.  Once the config is sent to the controller though all that happens is the tree lights run and nothing else.

I decided to connect the string to the end of the tree string to see if that worked and all it managed to do was light up 1 node on the string in Red, Green or Blue which aren't the colors I set it to in xLights.

I'm not sure if it's an easy fix or i'm just not understanding the settings on xLights enough.  I've looked at videos but can't seem to find any that have explained it enough where I can work out what i'm doing wrong.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

How are you connected to the controller?  Did it define the pixel outputs on the controller correctly?  It sounds like the controller outputs are not being uploaded from xlights.

Not sure about how others feel, but I like to see actual screen shots and not words trying to describe your settings.  It is easy with windows to make a screen shot by just using the built "snipping tool" or the newer "snip and sketch".  Just type snip in the search box next to the start button and both should pop up.

A picture is worth a thousand words, how about some screenshots (don't take a picture of the screen, they are usually too hard to read) of:

1. xLights Setup page
2. xLights Layout page
3. FPP eth0 page
4. FPP wlan0 page
5. FPP Channel Inputs page
6. FPP Channel Outputs page Both the E1.31/Artnet/DDP output and the BBB Strings pages.

And like Emuney18 said, how is everything connected together?

Edit: Jim beat me to the punch and many times people get the terminology wrong and with a screenshot we know exactly what is configured.

Thanks. I'll post the images once I can figure out how to get them pasted.  They paste but won't let me post and don't particularly want to host them somewhere.

I think that as only your 2nd post, your attachment option is limited. It's a spammer/bot protection (that has really helped).

It won't let me insert pictures at all.  Errors out with some character limit so i've put them on Google Drive.

I've managed to get a sequence somewhat working.  I started off fresh again to avoid being confused and created 1 group (1 to 512) and sync'd to FPP which worked.  I then focused on adding the 2 sets of lights in xLights and sync'd the output to FPP which worked also but when I ran the sequence on the controller only some of the lights lit up.

What I did notice was when I entered the lights manually into FPP on the same channels the sequence worked as I had programmed it.  It therefore looks like i'm doing something wrong on the lights portion.  :(

I think i figured it out.  I ended up enabling setting manually setting the output count to 1 on FPP and the lights worked to the sequence.  I'm not sure if i'm supposed to do it manually or xLights should have sent that info over like it did with the input though.

Emuney18

Output count to 1 is a little interesting but I can't remember exactly what the string port line looks like.  I'm guessing there is an output count and a string count in the same line for each port?  It is always possible that xlights FPP connect is missing something which is likely user error.  Lord knows I have messed that up several times myself.  We have all had lots of hit your head on the desk moments. The xlights manual does have a good description what each setting does in FPP connect.   Can you post pictures yet?  I wonder if we keep this going that you will be able to post pics soon.

That's awesome!   I was still using the old Alt-PrntScrn and paste-to-Paint method.  Thanks for the tip to help bring me back to the 21st century :D

You can't paste them directly into the quick-edit screen, but if you click on "Preview" then you will get a button that allows "Attachments and other options"
 You cannot view this attachment.

I am not sure what Output Count you are referring to, but if it was on the E1.31 Outputs page then that is wrong. But if you didn't have the Enabled box checked then it wouldn't matter.

xLights will upload all the configurations you need.... But you have to select all the right options!
