Stuttering when playing directly from BBB

Asking for a friend who is having issues with his new screen setup.

At this time he can not get any video to play directly from the files on teh SD card without any studdering happrning.  The files are a small resolution (2560x320) and in MP4 format, yet any framerate seems to stutter, even down to  ~15fps.

Any suggestions?

Try a lower resolution. I find 800x600 works good. But 2560x320 seems high and odd.
Make sure the speed of the SD card is adequate. try another SD card.
