Quote from: ScaryJerry on March 30, 2024, 04:51:46 PMHi, I'm trying to play video from a Pi V3 camera to an HDMI output.  Hours of forums and youtube without getting a result. I'll ship a free camera to anyone who can figure it out.  Thx

Can you check to see if you have any /dev/video* or /dev/v4l* device entries?

"ls -al /dev/video* /dev/v4l*"

There is a chance the camera is coming up as /dev/v4l* instead of /dev/video* according to some pages I have looked at.

I'm not using the video capture plugin. I'll try it. Thank you!

I have similar questions similar to those asked early in this thread: is there a solution model anno 2024 for having video be presented on LED panels from a camera source that is not connected to the FPP device?

I haven't tested the Video Capture plugin yet because this is an early stage idea and I haven't purchased the camera yet. I would like to display video from a consumer grade doorbell camera when it detects change. If somehow possible, what would the requirements be for the doorbell cam? (protocols etc).

Alternatively I'd be happy with a still picture from the doorbell camera. Assuming I can get the camera to work with Home Assistant, I guess a solution model could be to:
  • have Home Assistant receive the image
  • script to place it via network in a designated folder on the FPP device
  • send a MQTT message to the FPPD to play a playlist, that is configured to show images from that folder?

I have doorbell cameras (both front and side doors) and now a garage door video cam.  They already send messages and video via alexa but do not trigger a playlist as far as I know.  You might want to start by seeing if there is a documented API for those types of devices.  I will say the doorbell things can be very annoying if they start picking up to many motion triggers.
