Distance between FPP and Falcon F16v3

Hi All,

First post and trying to prepare for my first light show this Christmas. My question is related to location of my FPP Pi and the distance to the controller; is there a limit? My tree will be borderline out of wifi range but I can easily get a Cat 6 to that location.

Unclear if you're asking about wireless distance or wired distance.

Wireless: can't say....only you can determine that via testing
Wired: its an Ethernet connection so 100m or about 300 feet.

Thanks, it's the latter. I'm trying to keep my Pi closer to my network and run the Cat 6 out to controller.

If you have Cat6 on hand that's fine.  Just FYI, Cat6 isn't' going to get you any further distance.  Cat5 will give you the same 100 meters at the same speed.

Thanks again, have Cat 6 on hand and that's why I referenced it. Was happy Cat 5 would've sufficed too, just wasn't sure of limits in relation to the distance for either.

One thing to keep in mind with Cat-6 - it's stiff.  Because we are often cramming devices into small boxes, there are times when a cable needs to bend tightly.  That can put strain on connectors.  More than one person has broken connectors off boards because the Cat-6 would not bend easily enough.
Using LOR (mostly SuperStar) for all sequencing - using FPP only to drive P5 and P10 panels.

CAT6 can work and might actually be a better for use in these tight spots - BEHOLD!!!! @k6ccc
