I registered for the xLights forum several months ago and am still getting the " Your account is still awaiting admin approval" message when I attempt to log in.  I have not found anyway to send xLights a message asking if there is a problem.  Have they just stopped accepting new registrations? (seems unlikely since a lot of the users are "newbie" status).

I think about the only two people that answer xLights.org questions is Mike Krebs and myself.  You could post your xLights question on this forum and probably get a better response.  The site went dark for over a year a while back, and by the time they fixed it every body thought it was shutdown.  Not much action over there these days.  They have an active Facebook group if you use Facebook, and I hear there is good support in the xLights zoom room.

99% of xlights action is on facebook, I get that some people don't like facebook but its worth using even if you only use it for xlights group.

No... it really isn't.  Do you have any idea how many scam advertisements they push on people?  Every single family member/neighbor I have helped with computer issues is infested with malware that came from Facebook ads.  You seem to be a fully grown person capable of making your own decisions, but you might want to do a few web searches about them before you start endorsing them.

It doesn't change the fact that if you want an answer to an xlights question, short of using the zoom room, the best place to get it would be the Facebook groups.  I don't see that changing anytime soon.    Honestly, it's similar for FPP.   While we do answer questions and such here, there is way more action and information in the Facebook groups.

Agreed, and I did actually mention that. (see above quote) No issues with telling people there is a lot of information there.

People make mistakes, but Facebook has a long wrap sheet of bad actions, and a tiger doesn't change its strips too often.  Where I am from you circle the wagons and shut out bad actors.  It is easy for me, because I don't need to see pictures of someones morning bathroom dump, predicting the color and shape that it will be tomorrow.  I don't need the thousands of emails suggesting I should friend this person or that.

Facebook will likely continue to do bad things as long as it is profitable.  If your cool with that, I respect your choice, as long as you do not disrespect my choice not to support them.  As I read my comments again, they were harsher than I intended.  Darylc, I am sorry if it came across as attacking you.

I'm not here to argue about facebook generally, my point is that if you are using xlights/fpp and not using the facebook groups for them then you are missing out on a huge resource because facebook is the place where the majority of the information is posted (for better or worse).  Like it or not, it's 2025 and most people refuse to use forums like this/xlights.

JonD

Since it is 2025, I think most people are aware of the website that is listed in most dictionaries.  If you don't have an account at this point, it is a choice.  You're not likely to convince a non-user to create an account, and suggesting for them to do so is probably just going to flame things.  Politely let people know the resources are out there and let it be.  If they are open to creating an account they will do so.

OP was told the resources were available, then posted the question on this forum, and I think it was answered.

darylc

@JonD Why do you insist in creating arguments in threads and taking them off topic from the original posters topic?  My reply was for the OP, not for you to start yet another argument.  Your opinion about facebook is irrelevant.
